Herbert Matter - Design book

During my final year at University my class got randomly assigned a Designer that has made and impact on the industry during their life. I was assigned swiss-born Herbert Matter, a Graphic Designer and Photographer who was known for using photomontages in advertising and commercial work.
The cover of the book is a photo of the Swiss alps, to represent Matter's origin in a Swiss mountain village. I chose to use the red color as a contrast to the black and white, influenced by his work during the years.
The book begins with an image of Matter, and a text about his early life. Again the colour red is used as an accent and to bring attention.
Throughout the book there are two spreads with information about people, techniques and movements mentioned in the main text. These information spreads are distinguished by their black background and similar images made by Herbert Matter.
I chose to use a lot of white space around the text, inspired by high quality coffee table books, to give a more high end look.
Throughout the book Matter's work is displayed on full pages and spreads, varying between posters for tourism to advertising to the corporate identity for New Haven Railroad.
